Apple Ber is a seasonal fruit. Unlike a shelf-stable product, it cannot be supplied in the same quantity all year round — and that affects how traders and bulk buyers should plan.
Harvest timing varies
The harvest window depends on the location, the weather that year, the age of the orchard and how it was managed. In many regions, ber is harvested during the cooler months, but exact timing should always be confirmed with the supplier for the current season.
What this means for buyers
- Enquire early. Share your expected volumes before the season starts so supply can be planned.
- Agree grading. Discuss size, colour and quality grades, and how fruit will be packed.
- Plan logistics. Fresh fruit needs quick, careful transport. Agree who arranges transport and how long the fruit will be in transit.
- Expect availability to change. Quantities and prices can move during the season as harvests progress.
Handling fresh fruit
Keep fruit out of direct sun, avoid crushing during stacking and transport, and store in a cool, ventilated place. Sort out damaged fruit quickly so it does not affect the rest of the lot.
Types and varieties
Apple Ber is one of several cultivated types of ber grown in India. Different varieties are planted for different climates and markets, so fruit size, shape, colour — from green to yellowish, sometimes with a red blush — and taste can vary from orchard to orchard. When buying, ask the supplier which variety and grade is being offered this season rather than relying on a name alone.
